Not sure if you should buy the Uniden R3 or Uniden R7? Here are the key differences between the Uniden R3 and Uniden R Uniden R3 is such an acclaimed radar detector that whatever unit followed it would understandably receive much hype. And this is what we have exactly seen with the R7, released a bit later but is now used by many we perceive to be satisfied customers. The latter had improved performance and flexibility on the R3, such as when it came to detection range and sensitivity, and this is owed to its additional features, directional arrows included for accurate locations.
If you already have the R3, should you upgrade from R3 to R7, or skip the R3 altogether to equip your vehicle with the R7? Are the changes and improvements that drastic? While we believe in different strokes for different folks, we understand the appeal of a newer radar detector. And yet, costing a lot less than the retail price for R7 will make the R3 still a desirable option. We took it upon ourselves to compare and contrast the R7 versus R3, and ultimately, to help you in deciding which radar detector to take.
Here is a quick reference on the advantages of the Uniden R3 and the R7 before we delve into the particulars:. Here are some features of the Uniden R3 and R7 radar detectors and how they compare. The new design is the most apparent of changes from the R3 to the R7. There are a bigger display and a seemingly different orientation of controls, but curious enough the official manual for the R7 indicates the same dimensions and weight.
Both radar detectors use an OLED display [ 1 ], but the R7 screen is noticeably larger to accommodate a new advanced feature: the directional arrows which makes it easy to read. Previously seen on the Valentine One and the Escort Max Cithe once patented addition is now also available on the R7. You can also color code each arrow for instant band identification. The necessity of having one is contested by many radar detector users, considering the feature as a luxury, but there is also a sizable number from the community who wanted to see it on equipment other than the V1.
Uniden R7 gives users the option to change the colors based on the band for convenience. Colors also indicate signal strength. The default display color is red. By the way, both detectors have a signal strength meter with frequency identification as well. On the R3, the brightness can automatically adjust based on the time, depends if its day or night. Also, the R3 may not adjust to changes in lighting due to weather. This removes the need to manually adjust the brightness for easy reading. When it comes to legibility, we see no difference between the two models.
The button placement is a little different on the R7. Most remain at the top, such as power buttons, menu, and volume but then there are little changes. The mute button is placed in front of the R3, right below the OLED display, but the mute button is on the left side for the R7. This is an unusual choice based on other radar detectors but not one to bother us that much. The port for the power cable, while technically not a button, is now on the right side, away from the view of the driver.
On the R7, the display is tilted to the left, which is good for right-hand traffic countries including the United States and Canada where Uniden markets its detectors the most.Apps to make line graphs
The amount of the R7 VS the R3 is longer for a practical reason: the former is farther from the windshield. The suction cup mount for the R7 allows more mobility too.
Two major features are added on the R7: a second rear antenna and directional arrows.Yamaha clutch weight chart
These will help identify not only the source but the location of the signal, which may not mean much to others but will be beneficial in conditions where visibility is slightly compromised such as at night and where there are many possible sources for a signal.
The arrows come with voice alerts that will inform a user of the particulars even when not looking at its display. The R7 also comes with automatic GPS lockouts. Also See for R3 User manual - 20 pages User manual - 19 pages. Page of 32 Go. Table of Contents. Uniden R3 User Manual 19 pages.

Safe drivers always obey the posted speed limit and legal driving methods at all times. If the GPSRD is not receiving a signal, you will need to change your location until a signal is received. The GPSRD will only receive satellite broadcasts from satellites that have an elevation above the horizon of 5 degrees or more.
Page 4: Table Of Contents Introduction Note: A maximum of 5, locations can be stored in memory. Page 8: Speed Detection Systems Speed Detection Systems A speed detection device often called a radar gun sends out either a microwave signal or beam of light. When this signal reaches its target, part of the signal is reflected or bounced back toward the emitting gun. Each reflected pulse measures the speed of the object coming toward, or going away from, the laser gun.

They have changed the lockouts from to as Tom has indicated to others. I'm still comparing it to the FCC manual to see if there are any other differences. Just thought I'd share this quick.A: Radar detectors are currently banned in some states in the U. Uniden Owner's Manual
A: Radar detectors operate with various sensitivity levels. These levels determine the types of signals and signal ranges bands detected. Highway mode is the most sensitive level while City mode is the least sensitive. If the X band is left on in City mode, a radar detector can pick up many X band signals such as garage door openers that generate false alerts.
When you are on the highway, there is less chance of picking up X band false alerts, so the DFR6 keeps the X band on. Q: My detector is alerting K band when no law enforcement is around. A: One thing radar detectors are competing against for newer cars are the safety sensors. Cars that emit collision avoidance, lane monitoring, stop monitoring and similar features can set off the K band on the radar detector.
To solve this issue, you can set the K band filter to ON, but this will lessen the capability to notify you to true K band alerts. Please take a look at these video instructions or follow the steps below:.
Added K band Traffic Monitoring filter functions. Visible alarms can be either a digital display of signal strength or a series of LEDs. Many detectors now offer alphanumeric LEDs which can show you the type of band detected along with its strength. Auto-Muting — Replaces a continuous audio alert with a single alert followed by clicking.
This can preserve your sanity during extended radar encounters while continuing to notify you of the presence of radar. Some detectors feature multiple sensitivity settings for city driving.Shock Sensor — Shock sensor detects sudden acceleration, breaking or impact, and locks the video file. This automatically protects most important video clips from overwriting when memory card runs out of free space. Also it triggers recording in parking monitoring mode.
Parking Monitoring — If shock sensor detects an impact, it turns the camera on and record short video clip.K24a2 k20z3 head
Then camera turns off again to save battery. This helps if your parked car was hit. Motion Detection — If enabled, camera only records when it sees something moving. If a picture does not change, then nothing is recorded. This is helpful to conserve the space on the memory card then your car is stationary. Driving Aids — Built-in processor can analyze video feed and it can warn the driver as needed. For example, if you forgot to turn on your headlights, or you are following other car too close, it will warn you.
If you stopped at intersection, and a car in front you moved, but you did not — it can gently let you know. Backup camera usually mounted right over rear bumper so it gives you much better view than through rear view mirrors or rear window.
The dash cams utilise a satellite link to record the exact position and time and therefore speed of your vehicle for the duration of the journey. It records the location data at regular intervals, whereby it can be superimposed onto a map backdrop at a later date for analysis. However, unlike GPS tracking, GPS navigation uses pre-installed map software to provide accurate directions for the driver.
GPS navigation often provides directions to the driver in the form of a human voice audio or it displays them in a human readable format visual for the driver to read while safely parked!
These devices often have added benefits such as alternative routes, points of interest and nearby amenities.
High Definition — High definition HD video is video of higher resolution than is standard. There is no absolute definition for standard resolution, but generally high definition video is video footage with more than horizontal lines in the USA.
High definition cameras offer better resolution, color fidelity and an increased frame rate enabling any surveillance footage to serve as both a suitable deterrent and as evidence.
Motion Detection — Motion detection is the ability of a dash cam to detect a change of its own position relative to its surroundings or alternatively a change in surroundings in relation to itself. If someone crashes into your parked car or you have an accident of another variety then the motion detection will cause your camera to be activated and start recording. Loop Recording — Cyclic recording enables the camera to automatically record over old footage; when the memory card is full of video data, the device will immediately and smoothly start writing over the old data, unless instructed otherwise.
This occurs when your vehicle sustains an impact; when this happens, the camera will automatically protects the latest files, so they cannot be deleted.
You can feel safe in the knowledge that whatever the truth, you have proof. Dual Camera — Dual camera models have both a front and rear lens, enabling the camera to record both in front and behind. Some dual cameras models have two in-built lenses, while others have a two separate cameras, providing slightly better rear footage.
These separate dual cameras give you the ability to set up the secondary lens anywhere on the back windscreen for better vision also useful when reversing or parallel parking. They can also be set to initiate recording on start-up, making the management of the device extremely easy.
